canadians and friends! unfortunately our government is NOT doing much better. police are still targeting bipoc residents and it needs to STOP. not only that, but they are using the cover of covid and the protests happening in order to sneak by oppressive legislation!! here’s a few important pieces of news:

1. regis korchinski-paquet was a black woman murdered by toronto police. they were called to her residence on a wellness check and it resulted in her “falling” off her balcony. her family has stated this was NOT an accident. black residents of toronto are far more likely to face excessive force and brutality from police. you can support her go-fund-me and petition for justice HERE:

2. a 26-year-old tla-o-qui-aht woman from bc, chantel moore, was fatally shot by police during a wellness check in northwestern new brunswick. a wellness check was called in because she had recently been a victim of harassment, receiving messages on facebook. the police have stated chantel moore was violent but have NOT CONFIRMED any attempt to use non-lethal force before shooting her. you can support her go-fund-me and petition for justice HERE:

3. the ontario court of appeal recently announced the decision to make voluntary intoxication a legitimate defense in sexual assault and violent crime cases. this is EXTREMELY backwards and allows perpetrators to use the defense of intoxication in order to protect them from their victims seeking justice. 4. the albertan government is attempting to pass the critical infrastructure defence act. this act will prevent grassroots protestors in the province from exercising their right to protest on highways, railroads, pipelines, etc. by attaching a $25,000 fine or 6 months jail time. this could prevent citizens from protesting at legislatures or through picket lines. this bill is a direct attack against the wet'suwet'en protestors and could interfere with Indigenous peoples’ rights to hunt, fish or gather on traditional land. THIS IS YET ANOTHER ATTACK ON THE INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY TO PREVENT THEM PROTESTING THE DESTRUCTION OF THEIR LAND. please sign here to STOP this:
