the leafs straight up dont need nylander any more. he needs to understand that kapanen is taking his job, that auston is leading in goals despite his absence, and that all he’s doing is pouting about not being worth as many millions as he thought.

the leafs are leading the league without him. tavares has been more than enough of a replacement in terms of goalscoring. rielly is doing well enough for dubas to really rub team success in his face. the leafs are better than fine. stop complaining about nylander and tell him to grow tf up.

Wow. Okay. Where to start.

First of all: William Nylander - like every professional athlete - has a very limited time frame for his career. He now makes the money that he will live off for the rest of his life. He is literally selling his youth, his health and his body to his team (That’s professional sports for you!). So he really should try to get as much money out of this as he can. That’s why agents exist. 

Second of all: It might not just be about the money but also about non-trade clauses, the length of the contract, etc. You know, life-changing career shit like that.

Third of all: I’m not even gonna address the “Kapanen is taking his job” because that’s about the stupidest shit I’ve ever heard. And I’ve listened to Don Cherry speak! 

Fourth of all: If you call yourself a fan of any hockey player, maybe don’t knock him for trying to get a good deal on his own future. It’s a fucking business, not a sleepover party where one guest doesn’t arrive unless we put on her favorite movie. Yeah, Nylander is missing some games but he’ll be back in the line-up for Christmas. We might not like it, but as a wise person once said: “grow tf up”.

1. this is a white man debating about MILLIONS OF DOLLARS with another white man in order to play a SPORT that he LOVES. hes not doing this because it was the college degree thatll get him the most income. hes doing this because HE IS BEING GREEDY FOR MONEY so SPARE ME the bullshit about him selling his life and youth to the team when he ALREADY HAS millions in sponsorship deals, or could easily go to a swedish or russian league and make millions there.

2. of course it’s about the money. he wants to be a leaf, so he wants a long term deal. dubas wants to pay matthews, marner, and kadri, so he’s thinking team first. william nylander is thinking “hey, i want more than 36 million dollars over six years. my life is so hard :(((“ and dubas is thinking “i want to win a stanley cup please” WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE POINT OF HOCKEY. i dont know how naive you have to be to say that for a professional hockey player signing a contract, it isnt about the money.

3. kasperi kapanen is a speedy winger who handles the puck well, plays with auston matthews, and does well on breakaways. sound familiar? the leafs wanted tavares partially because nylander probably wasnt going to transfer to 2c as planned. so with tavares completing the 1-2 sucker punch of a line pair that babcock and dubas want, nylander is either 3c or a wing. kadri is not going to not be 3c, and nylander is not a fourth line center. so, this leads to the assumption that nylander’s gonna play on the wing (and as i have said, should have a winger contract.) and his chemistry is best with auston matthews. however, because nylander is not here, and kapanen does happen to be playing so well on matthews’ line (whether thats because of how matthews elevates his wingers or because of kapanen himself doesnt matter), dubas is able to say, “hey, william nylander, look at kasperi kapanen and auston matthews, who are playing extremely well together. look at the whole team, who are playing extremely well together. maybe sign the contract, since we clearly dont need you to be successful, and since i assume you want a few st*nley c*ps to your name. :)” kasperi kapanen is making it very hard for nylander to hold out, because if he does for much longer, and kapanen decides to keep racking up the points, nylander is out of a job and has to reevaluate his place on the team.

4. if im a fan of a hockey team i want to see my team win the c*p. thats it. i love the players and the team but again, is the end goal not to WIN? theres a reason players like crosby and malkin (i keep using the pens as a reference because the leafs rn r very similar to 2015-2016/2016-2017 pens) arent paid, i dont know, $13.5 million. to win a stanley cup, you throw millions at your stars but also say, hey, we arent going to be able to put all the pieces together if you use up the cap space. sue me i guess if im not a huge fan of a dude who’s already a millionaire trying to bargain for more millions. its irritating and stupid. and if its a business, then why the hell would the hold out NOT be about the money? this post wasnt really that deep, but sure, call me idiotic.
